This study aims to present a novel approach for creation
of new patterns for woven textiles, based on inspiration from
musical scores. The background of the idea lies on the similarity
between the notation and the 2D coding of weave patterns.
Such a design method has not been presented in the literature.
Theoretical and practical details of the application of the design
method are discussed. Weave patterns based on musical pieces
with specific differences in notation are presented. Exemplary
color designs are also developed to show the variety of suggestions,
which can be achieved with the ‘musical’ designs of the
textiles.
