Sentiment Analysis using Big Data
Interest in the automatic detection of sentiment within social
media posts stems from a desire to automatically canvas
a large population's feelings towards a particular product,
brand, or topic. This is made possible by the `big data'
trend, where huge amounts of user generated content such
as posts and videos are made available online. When working
with this quantity of data, annotations are usually automatically
provided through the presence of emoticons or
hashtags. Emoticons are symbols in text such as :) and
:( that substitute for facial and other non-verbal cues typically
present in face to face conversations, and help to disambiguate
the emotional content of a message
