Stoichiometricandnonstoichiometricmagnesiumferrite(MgFe2þδO4, δ¼0.0, 0.1)weresynthesizedby
the solgelcombustionmethodresultinginnanocrystallinepowderswithsizerangingfrom10to
100nm.Thesepowderswerecalcinedatvarioustemperatures(300–800 1C). Onepartofthecalcined
powder wasquenchedinliquidnitrogenandtheotherpartfurnacecooled. α-Fe2O3 wasobservedinall
calcined samplesbyXRDandthiswasalsoreflected inthemagnetizationdata.Electricalresponseof
MgFe2.1O4þδ spinel phaseto75ppmethanolwasfoundtobegreaterthanthatforastoichiometric
magnesium ferrite.
