Harbercraft Manufacturing is a small aluminum boat builder. For years the company supplied Sears with utility fishing boats made of riveted aluminum. In 1993 the company decided to change strategies and it established its own dealer system to carry its range of small boats. The company soon realized that its growth was limited to a few thousand units a year, even with entry into U.S. market. In 1995 it formed a joint a venture with Eagle Boats, a builder of aluminum welded-hull sports boats, acquiring the technology to expand its product line and market development. The new technology now allows Harbercraft to sell inthree additional niches-river jet boats, large pleasure boats and special fishing boats it could not have entered without the all-welded hull.
