Th ere were 12 cases of threatened preterm labour in the nifedipine
group and 14 cases in the progesterone group and this difference
is not statistically signifi cant.
In total, 10% of women in the nifedipine group and 61% of
women in the progesterone group delivered at 37 weeks. Th ere
was a signifi cant diff erence in the gestational age at delivery
between the two groups, the p value being 0.000 (Table I). Th e
mean gestational age at delivery in the nifedipine group was 34.46
weeks, while in the progesterone group, it was 37.07 weeks, and
is statistically signifi cant. No women in the nifedipine group had
a prolongation of 7 weeks, whereas 25% of women in the progesterone
group had a prolongation of pregnancy of 7 weeks.
Th ere is a signifi cant diff erence in the prolongation of pregnancy
between the nifedipine and the progesterone group ( p 0.000)
(Table II). Th e mean prolongation of pregnancy in the nifedipine
group was 16.63 days, and 40.14 days in the progesterone group,
which was signifi cant ( p 0.000) (Table II). Some 90% of women
in the nifedipine group and 82% of women in the progesterone
group were delivered by spontaneous vaginal delivery. Th ere was
no signifi cant diff erence in the mode of delivery between the two
groups
