Results of the base-line study
The hypotheses were tested via correlation analysis and linear regression. Tables I and II
contain sample size, means, standard deviations, and correlation matrices for
individual- and group-level variables. All correlations were significant in the
hypothesized direction at the individual level of analysis. At the group level of
analysis, both contingent reward and transformational leadership behaviors were
significant in the expected direction in regard to supervisor satisfaction and shipping

performance. Neither contingent reward nor transformational leadership was
significantly correlated with job satisfaction at the group level.
Linear regression was utilized to better understand the relationship between
contingent reward and transformational leadership behaviors and productivity as
measured by shipping performance (see Tables III and IV). In a stepwise linear
