Although villagers collect a large number of
NTFPs—more than 40 products were identified by
name—just 7 account for 87% of the combined NTFP income
for the sample as a whole. This concentration of cash
income from relatively few sources may suggest policy avenues
such as enriching forests with species that generate
commercially important NTFPs. Care must be taken in
such pursuits, however, because such enrichment might
displace species that are important for NTFP extraction for
subsistence use.
