Ary et al. (2002) stated that the use of pre-test enables one to check on the equivalence of the groups on
the dependent variable before the experiment begins. If there are no significant differences in the pre-test, then
selection as a threat to internal validity is eliminated and therefore one can proceed with the study. However, if
there are some differences, then the researcher can use ANCOVA to statistically adjust the post-test scores for
the differences
