I think everybody has someone in his heart that he admires very much, who may be a scientist, a singer or a movie star. As for the hero I admire the most is Florence Nightingale. She is the leader of nursing. She is a respectable and kind person.
Florence Nightingale was the daughter of a well-to-do British family in Italy. Her wealthy parents wanted her to become a socialite. But she didn’t want a life of leisure. She wanted to be a nurse. When she told her parents, they were shocked. Hospitals at this time were dirty and horrible. In 1851, she went to a Christian nursing school for women in Germany. She learned nursing for three months. It was hard work, but she loved it and never gave up on it.
The reason Florence Nightingale is my hero is she was truly inspirational and changed the face of nursing from a humble profession to an acceptable profession. When the Crimean War began in 1854, she was asked to go to Turkey to manage the nursing of British soldiers wounded in the Crimean War. At night she carried a lantern and walked around the wards, to make sure the men were comfortable. So the soldiers called her 'The Lady with the Lamp'.
Although Florence Nightingale is not a very famous person like Thomas Edison and Beethoven, she is an inspiration to nurses and many people. Form this story, I learned: ‘What is very important for lives is think of how to help other people who have trouble and give them spirit as much as we can.’ Also, don’t look down on the poor because every profession is important.
