The proportion of whole beads excreted by krill decreased sig- nificantly throughout the egestion period (X24 = 16, (N = 21525), p = 0.003), with whole beads no longer excreted after three days following the diet change (Fig. 4). Fragments were present in faecal material throughout all samples. This finding corresponds well with previous observations of size dependent egestion in marine invertebrates, both in laboratory and wild caught species31–33.
