In general, most work on both FiWi networks and WMNs focus on the traffic destinated to gateways for the Internet access.
As introduced in the previous section, FiWi network provides an attractive alternative routing for peer-topeer communications, which can utilize the high bandwidth provided by the PON subnetwork and alleviate interferences in wireless subnetwork, thus increasing the network throughput.
Therefore, our focus is on the network throughput gain brought by the new structural features in FiWi networks compared with traditional WMNs when peer-to-peer communications dominate the traffic load.
