Summary
The play opened with the servants of the Montague and Capulet families fighting in Verona, Italy. The two families had been enemies for long time. Romeo, son of Lord Montague, accidentally found out about a ball given by Lord Capulet and plans to attend uninvited. Romeo and his friends put on masks and attended the ball, where Romeo met the beautiful Juliet and fell instantly in love. Later that night Romeo went to Juliet’s balcony, and they exchanged vows of love. Romeo enlisted the help of Friar Laurence, who agrees to marry the young lovers in hopes of ending the long-standing feud between the two families.
After that, Romeo’s friend was engaged in combat with Tybalt, a member of the Capulet family. His friend died so Romeo killed Tybalt instead of his friend. He was banned from the city. He had to move to another city.
Romeo spent one night with Juliet before fleeing Verona. He hoped Friar Lawrence will attempt to settle the Capulet and Montague dispute so Romeo can later return to a united family.
Juliet’s mother did not know about Juliet’s wedding. She informed Juliet that she will marry with Paris. Juliet, outraged, refused to comply. So, she asked Friar Lawrence for the advice. Friar Lawrence gave Juliet a potion which will make her appear dead and told her to take it the night before the wedding. He promises to send word to Romeo - intending the two lovers be reunited in the Capulet vault.
Juliet drank the potion and everybody assumed that she was dead. Friar Lawrence’s letter failed to reach Romeo, so he assumed that his wife is dead. He rushed to Juliet’s tomb drinks a vial of poison. Moments later, Juliet woke to find Romeo dead and killed herself due to grief. Once the families discovered what happened, they finally ended their bitter feud. Thus the youngsters' deaths brought the two families together.
