This finding is in line with a similar
study that reported dockyard workers complaining as
a result of short-term exposure to VOCs.29We found
the mean reduction of xylene vapor in the workers’
breathing zone after installation of LEV system was
76% (highest reduction 94.3%). Other studies have
also concluded that LEV systems were reliable and
effective methods for reducing contaminant vapors
indoor microenvironments.18,30–33,35 However, current
designed local ventilation system decreased
xylene vapor particularly in a pesticide industry more
efficient than those reported for other vapors in
different industries.
In comparison, a study by Jafari et al. in a paint
manufacturing factory reduced mean xylene concentrations
to less than 50% of the primary concentrations
with the installation of an LEV system.30 We
selected a canopy hood for filling unit and two
canopy hoods for capping units, and were able to
reduce exposure even more significantly (76%).
