After the 3 RPIWs and a focus on LWBS and wait times, the last improvement event addressed access to care. To do this, a team triage (TT) program was developed. This program is aimed at providing patients presenting with severe illnesses and injuries timely treatment in the ED. Not only does this program benefit the patient, but it also reduces the LWBS metric. Patients are quickly assessed in a triage area by a care team consisting of a physician, nurse, and an ED technician. Urgent patients are promptly moved to a treatment room for care to be initiated, whereas nonurgent patients are tested and/or treated in the TT area. Nonurgent patients are discharged home or return to the waiting area until test results and/or a treatment room is available. These processes have reduced door-to-provider time by 73%
