Biomass contains varying amounts of cellulose, hemicellulose,
lignin and small amounts of other organics besides inorganics.
The relative proportion of the major organic components in biomass
is particularly important in the development of processes
for producing other fuels and chemicals. The combination of
cellulose, hemicelluloses, and lignin—all polymers—is called lignocellulose.
It comprises around half of the plant matter produced by
photosynthesis and represents the most abundant renewable
organic resource on earth [12,40].
