Individuals were often
concerned about their status being disclosed,
either directly or indirectly. Respondents mentioned
being concerned that other members of
their community might see them getting tested and
make assumptions about their HBV status and
lifestyle. One unscreened woman mentioned that
she would rather not be screened in the community
for this reason. She said: “I’m not sure if I would
go get tested at an outreach place or at my church
if it was there because it… just puts your business
out there. And I feel like a lot of Africans would
share the same like sentiment. Africans, at least
the ones that I know, are usually private people.”
