SATS works towards reducing our carbon footprint throughout the SATS family. Here are some of our initiatives to ‘Go Green’:
Recycling Organic Waste
We identified pre-preparation areas for fruits and vegetables where organic waste could be segregated from inorganic waste. About 3 tonnes of organic waste is collected daily at SATS with about 99.7% purity. For our efforts in organic waste recycling, we were awarded a token of appreciation at the National Environment Agency Recycling Week 2010.
Pioneering E-freight
As a pioneer of E-freight, an initiative facilitated by IATA to replace paper documentations in air cargo, SATS has helped to raise awareness among its peers and partners about the importance of reducing paper usage and the benefits of the E-freight processes.
Energy Conservation
SATS goes to great efforts to conserve energy throughout its processes and resource management schedules. An example is the implementation of solar-powered on-tarmac coolers for storage and the user of electric vehicles within Coolport@Changi. In addition, it also supports initiatives such as the Earth Hour in Singapore, where on 26 March 2010 (a day earlier than the designated day globally) from 1pm to 2pm, lights in its airfreight terminal and throughout the offices, lift lobbies, corridors and multi-storey carpark, were switched off for an hour.
