THE CLIENT-ACADEMIC INSTITUTION RELATIONSHIP
Not to be overlooked is the relationship between the client and academic institution. Although this relationship is
typically beyond the direct control or influence of the project team, the possibility of behind-the-scenes activities
by either of the parties could jeopardize other key relationships or the project itself. For example, the project
may be put at risk if the academic institution publicizes the project after assurances of anonymity are given in
writing to the client. Likewise, if the project relationship leads to unwanted Fund solicitations by the institution,
broader trust conflicts could arise within the project. An open and honest discussion about the types of issues
that could surface and how they would affect the project might lead to potential solutions and commitments by
all stakeholders.
