One of the key advantages of the electronic MCP (eMCP) is the ability to leverage a fine print note in NEC Section 430.52(3) stating, “For the purpose of this article, instantaneous trip circuit breakers may include a dampening means to accommodate a transient motor in-rush current without nuisance tripping of the circuit breaker”. To illustrate this dampening means referenced in the NEC, the motor start- up curve in Fig. 2 is plotted in a traditional time-current curve format used for publishing circuit breaker trip points, see Fig. 3.
