and of all the methods considered during the project. Data analysis describes how the data were carefully analyzed and organized to advance the research towards reaching conclusions and recommendations.
Data Collection Tools
Both Berg (2004) and Glesne (2006) recommended the use of multiple research techniques as a way to enhance authenticity and trustworthiness of the resulting data. The methods selected for this research study were online survey, face-to-face interviews, and a focus group. Throughout this research study I communicated the purpose of the study; provided detailed descriptions of the activities within the study; and explained the participant, researcher, and AR team roles, and how themes and results would be reported. All data gathered through the survey were stored securely on a computer drive; data gathered through the interviews and focus group were transcribed verbatim and the recordings and transcripts, flip charts, and handwritten notes were stored in the privacy of my home office in secured files.
On-line survey method. Collecting data from a survey can generate a significant amount of information quickly and at a minimal cost (Palys & Atchison, 2008). The JFSC organization is accustomed to surveys; therefore, the first research method selected was a survey that mixed both qualitative and quantitative questions using aspects of AI. The survey questions developed were influenced by the research question and sub-questions. Prior to launching the survey to the participants, three of JFSC‘s board of directors and my AR team pilot-tested the survey questions for language and to reflect critically on the usability of the questions (Glesne, 2006) within the context of the organization. From the feedback provided, changes to the survey were made to improve the clarity and substance of the questions.
