I have been to Italy twice and love it. The first time we went on one of those tours that take you everywhere. It is a good way to get a feel for the country and see the highlights. The second time we went back on our own and stayed in Rome a few days and The Amalfi coast a week. The second time was much more relaxing since we were not packing and unpacking every couple of days. Our next trip hopefully next year will be Tuscany for 10 days. Italy is beautiful, the people are so friendly ,food is out of this world, beautiful landscapes, and so much history. Traveling in Italy is like opening a history book and climbing in. Since I am Italian but born in this country when visiting Italy I feel I have gone back to my roots. The customs, people and food are all so familiar to me. I only wish I spoke the language! when I was small my grandmother told me I spoke Italian since they spoke it in the home. after starting school I forgot all of it. I can understand it when hearing italian spoken but I get all tongue tied when trying to speak italian myself. If money was no object I would go back every year.
