As individuals with conditions associated with chronic inflammation such as older
or overweight individuals have been shown to have enhanced susceptibility
to air pollution related health effects (Dubowsky et al., 2006;
Rückerl et al., 2007), we a-priori assumed a larger effect size in these subgroups
compared to the overall population. For the overweight this was
indeed the case. However, among the elderly we observed a smaller effect
size compared to the effect size observed in the overall population.
