Shipping
Many of the universal receiving principles apply for the shipping process but in reverse order
(Fazelle 2001). Accordingly, shipping includes the picking up and delivery of the orders to the
shipping dock where the SKUs are prepared to be shipped. Finally, the data for the SKUs, which
left the warehouse is updated in the inventory system. For both shipping and receiving processes,
scheduling of the incoming and outgoing loads would contribute for a better management of the
resources (personnel, staging space, dock doors etc.) and could promote creation of timetables for
the warehouse operations (Longva 2009). This would contribute to standardization of the
processes in the warehouse and thus for its improvement.
