In the two decades since the landmark work of Van Heerdenll], there have appeared an enormous
number of papers discussing the dynamic behavior of continuous stirred chemical reactors (CSTR).
Because of this the reader is justified in asking “why yet another?” Our reply must be that we
think we have significant new results as well as a sufficiently better perspective so as to allow the previous work to be understood within a general framework. In addition, the methods of analysis,which we have used to obtain the results presented here, are more powerful than previous techniques and open the possibility for significant new results in other lumped as well as distributed parameter reactor systems.
