Abstract
The results of a comparison between biological (indexing on herbaceous and woody indicators) and serological tests used in the sanitary selection of grapevine for the detection of viruses and virus diseases are reported and discussed. All diagnostic methods adopted proved useful and sufficiently reliable, but immune electron microscopy tests were more sensitive and quicker for the identification of grapevine fanleaf and related strains. The results of the sanitary selection of grapevine in Southern Italy and of heat therapy of selected material are also illustrated.
