The paper presents a proposed design, analysis and
simulation results of a 3.3 kV/2.4kA IGBT non-
destructive tester. The transient analysis took into
account the different stray elements in the circuit
according to the IGBT mode of operation. It was found
that the system follows over-damped characteristics in all
its operating conditions except in case when turning off
the high voltage series switch SW1. The turn off gate
resistance in this mode need to be optimized to limit
oscillation and instability. Furthermore, the analysis
shows that the gate inductance could destabilize the
circuit in case of small value of gate resistance.
Following the analysis, the system was simulated taking
into account a turn off failure. The simulation results
show that the failure could be removed in around 1μs. In
future work, the non-destructive tester controller and
experimental verification will be presented.
