Oxidative stress appears to be involved in the ‘‘hit’’
process, which promotes lipid peroxidation and the inflammatory
response. Uric acid reflects the rate of cell renewal,
which in itself can be a part of the inflammatory process,
making it a pro-inflammatory factor. Uric acid increases
interleukin (IL)-6 and tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-
) levels. Thus, high levels of uric acid in blood are due
to oxidative stress that occurs in response to metabolic
disorders
