Problem description
The placement of water quality sensors in water distribution
systems for securing public health typically involves several
stages. Those are: (1) defining sensor characteristics e type of
monitored water quality parameters, detection limit and accuracy,
mechanical failures, (2) simulating hydraulic and water
quality in the system e static/dynamic simulation model, kinetics
order, complete/in complete mixing, single/multi species,
(3) simulating contamination events -event characteristics (i.e.,
time, location, duration, reaction, and reactant), (4) designating
sensor network performance measures e health impact,
consumed mass, percent detected, time to detection, (5)
