The data suggests that most community forests were started in the late 1990s, and that the rate of establishment has increased since the year 2000. A team lead by Jürgen Fichtenau has similarly conducted stocktaking of “community forestry initiatives” in Cambodia (Fichtenau et al. 2002) and identified a total of 57 community forestry initiatives that cover a combined area of 83,000 ha, distributed among eighteen different administrative provinces of Cambodia.
