I feel that the use of cell phones during school is no different than anything else: it must be done responsibly and with the use of one’s better judgment. When someone is in possession of a cell phone, it is that person’s job to decide what would be considered using it properly. I don’t see an issue with a dedicated student rattling off a text message during school if they feel it is crucial and it is at the proper time. I’ve done it, and so has a large majority of other students. Therefore, if a teacher isn’t directly interrupting class and decides they must make a call or send a text message, I can relate to their dilemma. But, there is a fine line between sending a life-or-death text message and chatting to your fellow teacher all period about how your students don’t know the difference between Shakespeare’s Macbeth and Hamlet.
