Total Phenolic Content (TPC): The total phenolic compounds in the stem extract and leaf extracts were determined by Folin-Ciocalteu’s method described by 11 with some modifications. Briefly, 0.1ml of methanolic extracts, 2ml of 2% (w/v) sodium carbonate solution was added and vortexed vigorously. After 5min, 0.1ml of 50% Folin-Ciocalteu’s reagent was added and incubated for 30mins; absorbance was measured at 750nm against blank. The same procedure was followed for the standard solution of gallic acid. The total phenolic content in the extract were expressed as mg of gallic acid equivalent (GAEs) per g of extract (GA mg/g).
