A powerful subset of opinion is prediction. Prediction can feature in almost every lesson. It engages children because it requires personal opinion and because it lays down a comparison pattern. When we’ve predicted, we want to know if we’re right. We become interested in what’s going to happen. Halfway through a novel, we predict the ending. In fact, we predict the ending regularly. We become fascinated by the possibilities. We argue with each other about various outcomes. And when the ending is different from our prediction, we compare the two.
