Demand forecasts and allocated sales are only an estimation of what the future might hold, hence, a function is required to balance such information with available manufacturing resources and assigned production volumes to plants in order to fulfill total demand and to avoid bottlenecks or under-utilization. Due to the capability of early demand and supply mismatch identification, it can be possible to adjust available resources to certain extents (e.g. work-schedule adjustment, temporary workers, additional machinery).
