2013 has seen some major natural catastrophes in the region such as the super-typhoon Haiyan that strike the central Philippines making vast tract of destruction. Entering 2014 the world sees large area of snow storm and lowest temperature (-52°C) ever recorded in 21st century in America. 2013 was one of the hottest year for Australia.
One thing is sure, the sustainability of the world has not improved and many parts of the world especially coastal Southeast Asia are in greater threats of ever stronger natural forces.
PV is now widespread and in fact 2014 could see more than 40GW of installation globally. Most of these will be utility scale in China, India and US. Rooftop PV projects will continue to grow especially in our region but it will be very cost sensitive and subject to government legislation and permission. PV generated electricity is reasonably cost effective but it requires upfront investment which many households could not afford. We are continuing with PV business but we should not stay in EPC/SI role only. We are moving towards offering financing, operation and services in order to reach out to the needy users.
Last year we were determined to venture into Eco-Designed houses involving design, materials and construction and we are pleased to point out that many projects will be completed in the first half of this year. These are Fiji HOC, Malaysia PMO (heavy civil and structural work), Thailand SR, Cambodia TTC and SVC plus others. Most of these projects are also covered by BIPV. We are building our experience and track record on clean and green construction. Affordable housing has been identified as our main goal for our eco-designed houses but so far we are still in the promotional state. This year we shall work hard to achieve some real progress with affordable housing.
Our newest member in the Grenzone family is in the forming: Grenzone Cambodia. We can expect full operation in this quarter. Lets’ welcome the Grenzone Cambodia team in advance. Our company will be involved with training, design, engineering and construction of both PV and green buildings in Cambodia.
We are continuing to reorganize ourselves for better productivity, revenue and meaning. Sales and marketing of our standard products and solutions will be strengthened. Soo Leong has gladly accepted the role of Sales Director for Hooray Energy besides being the Director of Eco-Gallery. Other products such as PMUS, Eco-Designed materials and houses, standard PV systems and others should be cleverly promoted to the world.
Best wishes,
Toh Peng Seng
