Figure 1 shows how the dependency rate (the proportion of the population younger than
15 and older than 65 relative to those between 15 and 64 years of age) decreased from
73.1 in 1980 to 45.5 in 2010. It will reach its lowest level at 42.6 in 2019 and then start to
increase again. By 2041, there will be as many minors as elderly people (17.7% each) and
after 2041 there will be more persons older than 65 then under 15 years of age (CCP
2012a).
