(ii) Number of stems/ hill
The irrigation treatments had significant influence on the production of
number of stems/ hill compared to the non- irrigated treatment (Table1).Treatment I4 produced the highest (6.96) number of stems/hill, I1 the lowest (4.35)
while I2 (IW/CPE ratio of 0.50 having 3-irrigations) and I3 (IW/CPE ratio of 0.75
having 4- irrigations) produced statistically identical number of stems/hill among
the irrigated treatments. Although cultivars Cardinal, Chamak and Heera were
statistically identical (Table2) the last one produced the highest (5.53) number of
stems/hill. Binella was ranked the lowest (4.40) among the cultivars.
The interaction of irrigation regimes and potato cultivars had no
conspicuous significant effect on the production of stems/hill (Table3). However,
Heera with I4 treatment produced the highest (7.37) number of stems/hill while
Binella With I1 produced the lowest (3.33) among the irrigation treatments.
