It was observed that individuals with high SBP were approximately four times more likely to have hyperuricemia;a biological explanation for this fact is supported by a study performed in an animal model with rats, which demonstrated that after induction of hyperuricemia there was development of hypertension, probably due to reduction in nitric oxide in renal macula densa and by direct stimulation
of the renin-angiotensin system, as both mechanisms cause vasoconstriction and therefore increase blood pressure.
