L2 speaker demonstrates a higher fluency than an EFL speaker of the same language. The reasons discussed indicate no surprise when EFL learners reveal negative attitudes such as being unenthusiastic and having low interest towards learning the TL. The situation can get worse with a discouraging environment to use the TL. The mixed background of L2 learners in tertiary classrooms is a challenge among themselves for them to overcome to be active learners of English language and also a challenge to the English teachers to cater to the individual needs.
