Douglas-fir plantations are present in most Italian
regions with the main planting areas in central Italy,
particularly, in the provinces of Firenze, Prato and
Arezzo. In the present study, data from plantations in
the province of Firenze (3514 km2; Fig. 1) were used
to evaluate the infuence of climatic (temperature and
rainfall), topographic (elevation, aspect, topographicalexposure, etc.) and soil (pH, texture, etc.) factors on
site index variability.
