What is the Typical Lizard Diet?
There is nothing typical about a lizard?s diet. While most of the small varieties tend to feed on insects, many other species are vegetarian. For example, the crested gecko only eats fruits. Others, like the spiny lizards eat both plants and animals. Finally, the Gila Monster, native to the U.S. eats only meat. Lizards are typically visual hunters. They have teeth on both their upper and lower jaw, and also on the roof on their mouth, which they use to latch onto their prey while crushing them. They do not chew a lot, but their digestive system is designed to compensate for that.
