11. Is co-teaching always the teaming of a special educator with a general
educator?
This is the typical approach. Co-teaching should always have a general educator
as one of the partners. There are other professionals who might be involved in
co-teaching; English as a second language (ESL) teachers, high-ability teachers,
speech-language pathologists (SLP) or school psychologists may all be involved
in a co-teaching situation. The issue isn’t the “title” of the other professional, but
the fact that both teachers are licensed professionals with the commitment to
collaborate and improve outcomes for all students.
