Jamie Oliver had a passion for cooking from a young age. He began working in the kitchen of his parents’ pub at the age of eight. Jamie is dyslexic and found school tough. After leaving school with two GCSEs, he went to college to train as a chef. In the years following this he worked hard to make it in the career that he loved – even moving to France to gain experience.
Back in Britain, he worked at the famous River Cafe. He appeared on a documentary filmed there. After this, he was asked to present his own TV show.
From here Jamie’s success has grown and grown. He isn’t just focused on cooking for diners in his restaurants. He works with young people who may have faced difficulties in their lives. He helps them to train as chefs. He uses his TV shows to encourage people to cook and eat well within their own homes. As a result of this, many people have gone out and bought his cookbooks! He is the second biggest-selling author in the UK ever. This is a huge achievement for anyone, let alone Jamie, who admits that some days he still finds reading difficult.
Jamie’s a great example that with hard work, passion and talent, you really can get paid to do something you love!
