With the growing world population and advance in the living
standards of developing countries, the raw materials demand for
food or feed uses is to increase by more than 50% in the next
20 years (Vandamme et al., 2013). Again, initiative efforts have
been taken for transition from an economy based on fossil fuels
to a bioeconomy with renewable biomass to replace fossil oil as
a source of fuel for transport and a feedstock for chemical industry
(Haveren et al., 2008). Microalgae are believed to be a new and
more promising source of biomass for various applications
(Vandamme et al., 2013).
