The study showed the positive effect of the soil amendment with fresh OFMSW in the metal uptake of maize shoots in contaminated soil.
This effect was attributed to the high presence of DOM in soil treated with OFMSW (41.6 with respect to the control soil), which affected the availability of heavy metals in the plant.
In contrast to EDDS, OFMSW did not show any toxic effect, allowing high biomass production and as a consequence, attaining the highest total heavy metal uptake.
