Indonesia – Bedhayan Ardhanareesvara Dance
This dance is inspired by the figure of Ardhanareesvara which is the embodiment of Shiva in a half male and a half female ( Shiva and Parvati) which symbolizes the balance of duality of Rwa Binedha in life. Therefore, all these female dances are performed by some men. For the performance, it blends various styles of dance from various regions which are arranged well, beautifully, dynamically, and attractively. It is held as the opening with Bedhayan Java Dance whose source is from palace dance in Central Java (Yogyakarta and Surakarta), with the innovative movement patterns and dynamic floor pattern. It is followed by a medley of several different dance styles that originated from several regions in Indonesia which have the history of Cross Gender tradition, including West Java, East Java (Malang and Banyuwangi), Bali and Sumatra. As the closing appearance, Ardhanareesvara figure comes up as the collaboration of Indian dance and Indonesian dance with some unique movement techniques of Dwimuka.
