Employer and Employee: the Singaporean bosses are more – or – less on a
pedestal. He or she is given the respect that one would give to an honoured
parent. First names are not used. The bosses speak to the next – highest in the
hierarchical chain of command; they do not give orders directly to people
further down the line. The boss does not socialize on a one – to – one and
equal basis with workers.
