Waldenstrom’s Swedish study of 1111 women identified 50.3% of women had a very positive overall experience with 3.2% reporting a very negative one. Five variables in a logistic regression analysis which contributed to women’s birth satisfaction scores were: sense of involvement in the birth process, anxiety in labour, pain, parity and the midwife’s
support. The partner’s support was not significantly linked with satisfaction scores (Waldenstrom, 1999).
