Aseptic technique
An aseptic procedure using a non-touch technique is to be used during
intravenous cannula insertion and for all line manipulation (changing infusion
bags, giving sets and ports, and when preparing and administering medication
or therapy).
As part of standard precautions clean disposable gloves are to be used at
insertion and for all manipulations for the prevention of bloodborne pathogen
exposure.
