An unexpected heatwave hit the Italian side of the Alps on Thursday, visibly reducing snow levels at the foot of the Matterhorn mountain.

On Thursday afternoon, Youreporter television crew's anemometer measured the abnormal temperature of 25 degrees Celsius.
In the last few days, according to the Italian Meteo Centre, temperatures have reached July levels, 10 to 12 degrees higher than the seasonal average, causing a dramatic situation for Italian glaciers.
High temperatures were also registered much higher up: at 3,500 metres it stood at around 10 degrees Celsius.
The heatwave is playing havoc with the start of the ski season.
The only slope open so far is Ventina, the highest of Cervinia's slopes.
