Do you mean that your customs office broke the stopper?! This has happened many times in the bar I worked at, but never without the cork becoming stuck.
There are two options to fix it, bith involve superglueing the cork back onto the stopper.
However superglue is not the best glue to use on cork, so it is usualy a good idea to get a very sharp knife and shave tge edges of the cork VERY slightly, this will make it easier to remove and replace in the bottle and stop the cork becoming stuck inside it.
If you have any fears of this happening, drill a v small hole through the middle and feed a string through it, to tie onto a small plate that will sit inside the bottle with the cork. If you do this first and pull the string tight, then when u glue it u can keep a small amount of loose string inside the stopper (glued in). This way if the cork does break inside the bottle, then you can pull the string to get it out without having to dig it out, or use a corkscrew....
If this is hard to understand, please let me know and I will make you a video to explain, using another cork...
Thank you very much for the extra £30, but are you sure? You do not owe me any more for postage and I feel really bad that your customs office would do this... it may have been because they could not x-ray the metal stopper though???
Im glad the bottle was not damaged itself though, as the cork is unfortunate, but fixable..
